When I was a child, there were no computers. We played hide-and-seek, five stones, and marbles. We would run, invent rules, compete, plan moves, learn how to win, and also how to lose with dignity. Through the game, we learned to deal with frustration, take risks, think ahead, and act in an unexpected world.

When the first video games arrived, such as Pac-Man, Sonic, and Mario, the gaming experience took it to the next level. But the really defining moment came years later, when I watched my children play and also played with them. That’s when I realized that something deep was going on there. They didn’t just play.

They developed skills of persevering in tasks and challenges, working in teams, planning strategies, and using resources in conditions of uncertainty. Mainly, they developed a sense of capability: the understanding that you can try, fail, and learn from it how to continue. That you can influence, choose to act, and move forward even in an unpredictable world. The enthusiasm of my children and their “sticking to the computer screen” in video games intrigued me.

Why do we love playing video games so much?

At the time, I didn’t know that this question would become my life’s mission: Cracking the secrets of engineering the “happiness and wealth” of video games and the gaming industry.

At the same time, more questions arose: If video games contribute to creativity, a sense of capability, and happiness, how can you harness all of these into life itself? For more effective learning, for training in organizations, for success in business management, marketing, and advertising brands, as well as for rehabilitation and building resilience for people with special needs, in an era of ongoing uncertainty.

What started out of curiosity and passion to discover the hidden gravity of video games has turned into a multi-year research and application journey. Over the past twenty years, I have specialized in the study of user behavior in virtual worlds and games, mapping and identifying the characteristics of the Gameful Mindset, and harnessing these principles to drive success in life.

With the arrival of generative AI into our lives, all the insights and principles I discovered in my research have been reinforced. Because in an age of uncertainty and unprecedented change, we need a new kind of intelligence.

Elhanan Gazit is the founder of the Gameful Intelligence™ approach to realizing potential in the age of Artificial Intelligence. He is a researcher, entrepreneur, lecturer, and consultant to organizations, high-tech companies, startups, and educational institutions.

Dr. Gazit researches how video games and virtual worlds affect behavior, learning, motivation, decision-making, and leadership development under conditions of uncertainty. In his research, published in scientific journals and books, he cracks the secrets of the gaming industry’s happiness and wealth engineering, examining how they can be applied in the real world: in management, marketing, education, entrepreneurship, and innovation.

He serves as a consultant to managers and companies in Israel and around the world, helping organizations navigate growth in the AI era, improve decision-making processes, and lead strategic innovation through the application of Gameful Intelligence. He is a frequent speaker at conferences and professional events globally.

• Ex-Founder & CEO of MetaverSense Ltd. and developer of the i-land virtual world for avatar-based training.’
• Produced and hosted international conferences in the field of Serious Games.
• Developed and lead the Games4Girls Academy for Young Computer Game Developers.
• Created “Discover the City”, Israel’s first location-based mobile game.
• Developed the “Games for the Future” web show programs, commissioned by the Ministry of Education.

Dr. Gazit served as the Academic Director of the Virtual Reality Laboratory at Shenkar College and has led projects at Afeka College and the Weizmann Institute of Science. He also initiated a project for children with special needs, which won an R&D grant from the PBC (Council for Higher Education).

He is active in international research (DiGRA, iLRN, IEEE), hosts a podcast, and is writing a book on Gameful Intelligence (expected 2026). He lives in Tel Aviv, is married with two children, and is an open-water swimmer.

“JuLoot” represents my business DNA. The word is a portmanteau of two words: “Jeux” (Play in French) and “Loot” (the rewards and treasures found in games), coined by Dr. Elhanan Gazit in 2012.

JuLoot represents Dr. Gazit’s brand’s gameful and playful DNA. Hebrew speakers pronounce “Juloot”​ as “Julot”,​ the “playable Marbles”​ we played as children.
